ASUU Strike To Begin Soon!
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Tuesday September 14th 2021, claimed to embark on strike action any moment from now, this is because the Federal Government failed to fulfill its promise to execute the Memorandum of Action (MOA) signed by both the government and ASUU last year December.
Dr Adelaja Odukoya ( Lagos Zonal Coordinator of ASUU) together with other union leaders from various universities in the zone at a press conference in Lagos state, made it known that strike action in the nation’s public universities can start any moment from now.
The ASUU union leaders during their meeting yesterday, lamented that the government is trying to cripple the union by refusing to pay check-off dues of members for over a year. According to the union leaders, these check-off dues ran into millions of naira and the act was perpetrated by the government through the controversial Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS).
In the statement of the leaders, they said; “We called off our strike last December and signed MOA and out of the nine items on the list for implementation, only two have been done. Can you imagine that we as union are the ones asking the government to set up panels to know what is happening in their universities?
with the look of the situation, ASUU is not ready to stay mute on the issue on ground. ASUU strike to begin very soon!!
